It is with a profound sense of loss and a spirit of gratitude that we announce the passing of our beloved father, James Sanchez, who entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior on July 16, 2025, at the age of 82, peacefully at his home.

James was born on June 19, 1943, in Taylor, Texas, to Guadalupe and Maria Robles Sanchez. He spent his early years in Billings, Montana, where he learned the values of hard work and perseverance. At a young age, he left school after the fourth grade to support his family, working at Babe Yost Ranch, a testament to his dedication and love for those he cared for.

Throughout his life, James exemplified the virtues of diligence and faithfulness. He worked at Kennecott Smelter in Tooele, Utah, before moving to Ucon, Idaho, where he was employed by MK Construction in Idaho Falls. He also contributed to the labor union for the Teton Dam project until its collapse. James ultimately retired as a custodian from the Idaho National Laboratory in Arco, Idaho, where he was known for his warm spirit and unwavering work ethic.

In 1964, James married Mary Segura from Menan, Idaho, and they settled in Ucon until their divorce. In 1994, he found love again with Lorraine Chavez of Pocatello, Idaho, and together they built a life grounded in faith and love.

James had a deep appreciation for God’s creation, finding joy in the great outdoors. He loved camping, fishing, hiking, and hunting throughout southern Idaho. His adventurous spirit also led him to enjoy four-wheeling and riding his motorcycle. One of his unique passions was collecting cans from roadways, a hobby he shared with his family, teaching them the importance of stewardship over God’s creation.

A devoted member of Christ Church in Pocatello, James cherished his church family and found strength and solace in their shared faith. His life was a testament to the love of Christ, and he lived out his faith through acts of kindness and service to others.

James is preceded in death by his parents, his beloved son James Jr., sons Joseph and Joanna, daughter Lori (Manuel) Jaramillo, and two sisters, Dolores (Lola) Robledo and Lupe Ruiz. He is survived by his loving wife Lorraine, daughter Angela (Rico) Llamas of Idaho Falls, daughter Amy (Scott) Murphy of Ammon, stepdaughter Raynelle Carmona, stepdaughter Thomasine Chavez, stepson Andrew Chavez, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will carry on his legacy of faith and love.

As we mourn his passing, we also celebrate the life of a man who brought joy, laughter, and love to all who knew him. James will be remembered for his infectious humor and the light he brought into the world. We take comfort in knowing that he is now in the arms of his Savior, and we invite all who knew him to join us in honoring his memory and the impact he made on our lives. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
