Obituary
John Anderson
May 22nd, 1979 - August 26th, 2025
John Robert Anderson, of Idaho Falls, passed away unexpectedly in a car accident on August 26th at the age of 46.
John was born in Rexburg, Idaho, to Lori Beverly and Bill Thorngren. Times were tough in his early years, and his mother often had to put him on the tractor while she worked the fields to provide for their family. From her, John learned the value of determination and perseverance, a work ethic he carried throughout his life.
When John was five years old, Lori married Scot Anderson, who became a steady father figure in his life. John always spoke of Scot’s work ethic and the lessons he learned by his side—especially how to work hard and how to handle a saw. Together, his mother’s resilience and Scot’s example of honest labor shaped the man John became.
He grew up in Ammon and Ririe, where he quickly stood out as a talented athlete. Football became one of his greatest passions, and he excelled on the field all through school. After graduating, John went on to play with the Mustangs, cherishing every moment of the game and the friendships he built along the way.
In 1996, John married Alicia Anderson, and together they welcomed their daughter, Mckenzy. Although they later divorced, John and Alicia remained close friends and shared the joy of raising their daughter with love and respect.
Above all, John’s greatest pride and joy were his children and grandchildren. Being a father and grandpa gave his life purpose, and he adored his kids beyond measure. His family was his reason for everything, and he never missed a chance to remind them how much he loved them.
John was also known for his big personality, quick wit, and sense of humor. He had a way of filling a room with laughter and making people feel at ease. To his many nieces and nephews, he wasn’t just an uncle—he was the “Funcle,” always ready with a joke, a smile, or an adventure.
John was preceded in death by his grandparents, his brother Josh Thorngren, and his sister Sarah Anderson.
He is survived by his partner, Heather Ricks; his parents, Bill Thorngren and Lori Beverly; his children, Mckenzy (Rylie) Baird, Logan Anderson-Bray, Zayden Anderson, Harper Henry, and Hudson Anderson; siblings, Justin Anderson, Katie Anderson (Ben Troshynski), Amanda (Ryan) Raymond, Heather Wheeler, Mackinze Loftus, Jessica (Matt) Fisher, Shawn Thorngren, Chrissy Carlson, and Candace Simon; and his grandchildren, Emma, Delilah, and Ronan. John also leaves behind a large extended family and countless friends who will forever remember his humor, warmth, and heart.
In keeping with John’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral service. Instead, a Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, September 12, from 6–9 p.m. at The Zone Sports Grill, 1505 W Broadway St, Idaho Falls, ID 83402. Family and friends are invited to come share stories, laughter, and memories in honor of John’s life.
