Obituary
Brad William Reed
June 8th, 1956 - September 12th, 2025
With great sadness, we announce that Brad William Reed passed away on September 12, 2025, at the age of 69, after a brief battle with cancer. Brad never sought a spotlight, but his quiet influence and steady presence has made his impact, and his loss, all the more felt. While no one was ready for him to go, we take solace in reflecting on his life that was rich in faith, family, service, and adventure.
Brad was born on June 8, 1956, in Kent, Washington. After living in several locations across the United States, his family eventually settled in Ririe, where Brad attended Ririe High School. He contributed his height and sportsmanship to the basketball and track teams, excelling specifically at the triple jump. Following graduation, he attended Ricks College as a student athlete on the track team for one season. He then served a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Germany Munich Mission, where he developed a deep love for the German people, language, and culture that stayed with him throughout his life. Brad returned on trips to Germany six times, and his family has come to count on his homemade Wiener Schnitzel for special occasions.
Upon returning home from his mission, Brad re-enrolled at Ricks College, where he met his first wife, Jolene Quinn. He later continued his education at Boise State University, earning a bachelor’s degree in accounting. Brad and Jolene raised their five children together in Rexburg, Idaho. After Jolene’s passing in 2001, Brad was blessed to find love again with Deborah Hawke of Annis, Idaho. Together, Brad and Deborah built a beautiful life, caring for their combined eleven children with unwavering commitment.
Beyond his devotion to family, Brad touched countless lives through his 39-year career as a Certified Public Accountant with Rudd and Company, as well as through his many contributions to the community. He served with the Rexburg Kiwanis Club, the Rexburg Dance Festival, was active in the Rexburg Chamber of Commerce, and gave his time as a board member for Grand Peaks Medical.
Brad remained a devoted and active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He faithfully served in many callings, including ward clerk, stake clerk, and as a bishopric member, and made it a priority to attend the baby blessings and baptisms of his grandchildren. Most recently, he got to hang up his suit and be the activity day leader for 9–10-year-old boys.
Brad had many hobbies and interests. A loyal fan, he could often be found cheering on his favorite teams: the Boise State Broncos and the Utah Jazz. In recent years, he learned the art of beekeeping, sharing the honey he harvested with family and friends. Brad loved photography, especially capturing the beauty of nature and moments with his grandchildren. He also had a lifelong love of travel. He visited every continent except Antarctica and was always planning their next adventure.
Brad is survived by his wife, Deborah Reed; his children Nathan (Maija) Reed of Boise, ID; Kiera (Brian) Stites of Boise, ID; Kirsten (Brandon) Arthur of Henderson, NV; Krystle (Brent) Swain of Meridian, ID; Lorna (Benjamin) Bryce of Nampa, ID; stepchildren Jason (Amy) Hawke of Meridian, ID; Justin (Rebecca) Hawke of Pinedale, WY; Jana (Stephen) Dalby of Meridian, ID; Julie Hawke (Zach Tilton) of South Bend, IN; and John (Lyndsey) Hawke of Rigby, ID. He was blessed with a combined 36 grandchildren who were his pride and joy. You would find all 6’2” of him on the ground playing with toddlers, or in his recliner rocking babies to sleep. He is also survived by his sisters Jerrilee (Todd) Robinson and Darla (Travis) Rock, and his sister-in-law Lanet Reed.
Brad was preceded in death by his parents, Jerry and Lorna Reed; his brother, Lynn Reed; his wife, Jolene Quinn; and his stepson, Jared Hawke.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 20, at 10:00 a.m. at the Rexburg South Stake Center 5200 S 2041 W Rexburg, ID, with the family receiving close family and friends from 9- 9:45 a.m. Interment will be at the Rexburg Cemetery following the funeral.
Brad will be remembered for his gentle spirit, generosity, and kindness. Though our hearts are heavy with loss, we find strength in the lessons and legacy Brad leaves behind. His influence will continue to live on in our memories, our stories, and in the love that binds our family together.
