After daughter’s life-threatening flesh-eating infection, mom gets surprise from a Secret Santa
Published atA local Secret Santa is giving $1 million to deserving people in eastern Idaho this holiday season. Every day, from now until the end of the year, the East Idaho News elves will be delivering gifts from Secret Santa and we’ll be sharing the surprise videos here.
Mary has spent the past several months living every mother’s nightmare — and somehow still showing up to work with a strength that has amazed everyone around her.
Her 14-year-old daughter was suddenly rushed to Primary Children’s Hospital after developing a fast-spreading, flesh-eating bacterial infection on her back. Doctors worked urgently to save her, but the infection left a devastating wound — a hole nearly the size of a volleyball.
For almost two months, Mary stayed by her daughter’s bedside while medical teams performed treatment after treatment. Even now that her daughter is finally home, the healing process is far from over. She requires dressing changes five times a day, and the family still makes weekly trips from Menan down to Utah for follow-up care at Primary Children’s.
Through it all, Mary has continued working at the Menan Post Office, doing everything she can to keep her family afloat while caring for a child who needs constant attention.
When Secret Santa heard about what Mary and her daughter have been enduring, he knew they could use some extra Christmas cheer. So he sent the East Idaho News elves over to surprise her! Check out the video in the player above!
