Hawthorne Middle School closed after water main break in Pocatello

POCATELLO — Hawthorne Middle School is closed Friday after a water main break in the area sent water into a nearby power grid, prompting safety concerns for students, staff, and nearby residents.
District officials say the decision to close the school was made “out of an abundance of caution.” No other schools in Pocatello/Chubbuck School District 25 are affected and all will operate on a normal schedule.
According to Bannock County, the break occurred near Poleline Road and Eldredge Road. Emergency alerts urged residents in the immediate area to stay inside their homes and avoid the affected roads until further notice.
The district said it is working closely with local authorities and will provide updates as the situation develops.
