Obituary
Rulon B Grube
March 26th, 1936 - January 24th, 2026
Rulon B Grube, 89, beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2026. He was born on March 26, 1936, in Ashton, Idaho, to David P. and Norma Bonneru Grube.
Rulon was raised on the family farm in Ashton, where he worked alongside his father raising cows, sheep, and potatoes. He attended school in Ashton, graduating from North Fremont High School in 1954. During his school years, he was actively involved in 4-H and Future Farmers of America and developed a deep love for football. Playing guard on the football team, he learned leadership skills that later shaped his life and community involvement.
In 1957, Rulon married his only love, Doris Rasmussen Grube. They shared 60 devoted years of marriage and raised five children together. Rulon was a loyal and trusted friend—if you were his friend, you were a friend for life. He loved his family deeply and unconditionally, always placing them first. With a true servant’s heart, he was never hesitant to lend a helping hand.
That love of football carried forward as Rulon became one of the most successful youth football coaches in the area. He coached many championship teams over several decades, leaving a lasting impact on countless young men throughout the Ashton community. He was also known for his remarkable memory—able to recall names, places, dates, statistics, and history with ease—making him the undisputed best Trivia Pursuit partner in the family.
After graduating high school, Rulon attended the University of Idaho. Following a decline in his father’s health, he returned home after one year to continue running the family farm. In addition to farming, Rulon worked long hours for the State of Idaho plowing roads, often keeping Highway 32 open through severe winters so residents of Drummond could safely access town. He took great pride in serving his community during the most difficult conditions and believed deeply in helping his hometown thrive and feel welcoming to all.
Rulon was a familiar presence at the Ashton Flea Market, which his mother helped establish alongside the Rebecca Lodge and the Odd Fellow Lodge #88 to meet a community need. A devoted member of the Odd Fellow Lodge for 51 years, Rulon received his 50-year jewel service award last year. He also volunteered for many decades as an election judge, demonstrating his commitment to civic service.
Known throughout the community for his daily walks, Rulon walked miles each day for nearly 45 years. He believed strongly in maintaining good health of both body and mind and pursued that belief faithfully every day.
Rulon was preceded in death by his loving wife Doris, his parents, sister Darlene Goebel, his twin brother (deceased at birth), his son Raul, granddaughter Brittney Harris; and grandsons Jacob Grube and Chandler Harris.
He is survived by his sons David Q. Grube, Derek Grube (Kristine), and John Grube (Gina); his daughter Sharla Harris (Scott); and his grandsons Connor Harris, Garrett Grube, and Nicholas Coachman along with several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Rulon’s legacy is one of loyalty, passion, humor, and love. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the Ashton community.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at the Ashton Community United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at Baxter Funeral Home, 717 Main Street, in Ashton, and Wednesday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment will be in the Pineview Cemetery.
