Ben passed away peacefully in early March in Idaho Falls. He grew up in Butte and was the Montana NFAA youth barebow archery state champion in the mid 1970s. After Butte High School, he eventually got involved in the oil fields near Riverton and Farmington and became a sought-after driller. In the middle of his life, he lived in the Payette/Boise area. He wasn’t much for a traditional and methodical lifestyle, and his calling came to be one of the outdoors, short-term jobs, bunking where he could and more or less living off the land. He loved to fish, repair his cars, sell nightcrawlers, pick wild asparagus and sleep under the stars. He was happy with the home he owned in Idaho Falls for a few years late in his life. He helped others regularly, and he became a master at scrapping metal to get by — often sharing the reap with those who helped. He was proud of his ability to sketch pictures of fish. He was fun to be around a good amount of the time. He could drag elk like none other, he loved his dogs, and on a good day, he would give you the shirt off of his back.
