Idaho Falls man faces felony drug charges after cocaine was allegedly found in Tic Tac container

IDAHO FALLS — A 54-year-old man is facing felony trafficking charges after prosecutors say a traffic stop led to a sheriff’s deputy finding cocaine in both a Tic Tac mints container and a pill container, among other drugs.
Von Lane Fisher, of Idaho Falls, is charged with felony trafficking of cocaine, felony possession of contraband, misdemeanor possession of contraband, and two misdemeanor counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.
Fisher faces a mandatory minimum of three years to life in prison if he is found guilty.
On Monday, at around 7 p.m., a deputy with the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on a red Chevrolet Tahoe on North Ammon Road near East Ririe Highway, according to a police booking affidavit.
The driver, later identified as Fisher, was told by the deputy that the stop was initiated because the man did not use his turn signal.
A K-9 officer with the Idaho Falls Police Department was called in to conduct a free-air sniff. The police dog did so, but the affidavit says Fisher had consented to law enforcement searching the vehicle.
During the search, a black bag was found under the driver’s seat, and inside it was a glass pipe with burnt residue of a leafy substance, according to the affidavit. Another plastic tube had a similar substance inside, which later tested positive for marijuana, the document states.
In the front part of the vehicle, police say a metal tube in the cup holder was found to contain a white powder that was believed to be cocaine. A Tic Tac container was also found containing the same white powder, the affidavit states.
Both containers were tested and returned positive for cocaine, police said. In total, officers say they seized 48.67 grams of cocaine from the vehicle.
As the search continued, two more baggies were found with a white crystal-like substance that tested positive for amphetamines, according to the affidavit. These were reportedly found inside the black bag, as well.
Fisher was placed under arrest, and after his Miranda rights were read, the affidavit states that he told officers he was not aware of the substances inside the vehicle. He did, however, admit to having last used methamphetamine that morning, according to the document.
Fisher is scheduled to appear before Magistrate Judge Wiley Dennert for a preliminary hearing at 1 p.m. on April 28.
Though Fisher has been charged with these crimes, it does not necessarily mean he committed them. Everyone is presumed innocent until they are proven guilty.
