City leaders seek input on design of new park near CEI

IDAHO FALLS — The City of Idaho Falls is seeking public feedback on a new park planned near the College of Eastern Idaho.
In a news release, city administrators announced that community members are invited to share what amenities they’d like to see in the new park during an event planned for Tuesday evening. It will take place from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the end of Meppen Drive, near the community garden, in Idaho Falls.
The most-supported ideas will be prioritized for the final design, the city says.
“Meppen Park is an exciting investment in the future of this neighborhood and the families who live here,” said PJ Holm, Idaho Falls Parks and Recreation director, in the release. “For far too long, this area of Idaho Falls has not had a park within safe walking distance for neighborhood children.”
The city aims to provide a safe place for the community to gather, and Holm said he is “thrilled to work with the community to create a park that will serve this neighborhood for generations to come.”
During Tuesday’s event, city staffers will display some proposed concepts for the park and answer questions. Community members can review and rank potential amenities like sports fields, playgrounds, courts and more.
The release states that while all input will be carefully reviewed, the final park features will depend on factors such as utility requirements, accessibility standards and safety considerations.
