GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK (TMX) — The National Park Service on Tuesday confirmed the remains of a hiker missing since April were recovered at Grand Canyon National Park over the weekend.

Park personnel on May 9 recovered a body below the rim near Verkamp’s Visitor Center, on the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park. The remains were transferred to the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office, which confirmed they belonged to 26-year-old Sandarsh Krishna.

Krishna was reported missing on April 28. His last known location was along the Rim Trail along Hermit Road between Bright Angel Lodge and Mohave Point between 4 p.m. on April 27 and 12 a.m. on April 28.

On May 1, park officials sought a possible witness who had turned in a backpack believed to belong to Krishna to hotel personnel at Bright Angel Lodge at around 7 a.m. on April 28.

Park officials said Krishna’s death remains under investigation by the National Park Service and the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office.
