Reed Doyle Hanson, age 54 of Ammon, Idaho, passed away May 26, 2026, in the Intermountain Health McKay-Dee Hospital surrounded by family after battling for weeks with illness.

Reed was born in Idaho Falls, on November 13, 1971, and raised in Shelley, Idaho, where he went to school and graduated. He always had a knack at making friends with whomever he could, wherever he went, in school, in church and at work. When he was younger he played baseball, played the trombone in school and also participated in many plays, as Drama was his passion at the time. He was a scout and did receive his Eagle Scout Award.

When he graduated and turned 19, he served a mission with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Minneapolis, Minnesota. After returning from his mission, he got a job counseling troubled boys with a Youth Organization from Utah, that brought him to the tomato fields and orange groves in Ruskin, Florida. He eventually met his wife (Melanie Black Hanson) in a singles ward in Shelley and got married in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple June 16, 1995.

The most important things for Reed were first Family and second The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He always did what he believed was best for his family, and always defended them and cheered them on wherever he could. He was also a part of the BOM (Book of Mormon) squad on TikTok and was known for defending the scriptures to the end.

Reed enjoyed anything new with technology and loved listening to music with one of his favorite artists being Rush. He also enjoyed Star Wars, Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica. He was always pursuing knowledge even though he was not able to do so formally after high school.

Reed was proceeded by his parents Reva Ethel Patterson Hanson (March 26, 1930 – September 8, 2019) and Keith B Hanson (October 13, 1927 – February 28, 2021)

He is survived by his wife Melanie, his four children Alexys, Adam (Megan) and sons Ren and Jasper, Dreyson and Brenna (Timothy) and daughter Camellia, and his nine older siblings David, LaMont, Barry, Kurt, Colleen Branson, John, Kristine Smith, Clint, and Bryce.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m., on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at the Ammon Third Ward Chapel, 2150 Avocet Drive, Ammon, Idaho 83406. The family will receive friends on Saturday, from 11:00 a.m. till 11:45 a.m., at the church. Burial will be in the Shelley Hillcrest Cemetery.
