ASHTON — After a fishing boat capsized in the Fall River on Thursday, Fremont County Search and Rescue responded to aid in rescuing three fishermen stranded in the river.

Fremont County dispatchers received an emergency text on May 28 at around 5:30 p.m., according to a statement from Fremont County Search and Rescue. The text, sent from an Apple device, contained no other contact information.

Search and rescue was activated and dispatched to the location where the text was sent, which was east of the Fall River Hydroelectric Plant near Ashton.

Once at the river, three fishermen were found, as well as a capsized boat stuck on some rocks, the statement says.

It was determined that the fisherman had launched their boat upstream, and while floating downriver the boat struck a rock, causing a puncture. As a result, the fishermen continued navigating the river in search of a safe spot to get out when the boat hit another rock and overturned.

Due to the area’s geography, the fishermen could not leave because of the steep canyon walls. Search and rescue crews used a Cataraft and launched upstream of the fishermen’s location, safely rescuing all three.

The statement says that none of the men was injured, but the boat is still in the river.
