Ronald Gary Goodwin, 85, of St. Anthony, passed away Monday, June 8, 2026.

Gary was born September 15, 1940, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, in the old LDS Hospital, a son of Ronald G. and Inez Arave Goodwin.

Sometime after World War II broke out, his family moved to Taylor where he grew up. He graduated from Shelley High School in 1958. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in England. After his mission Gary attended BYU in Provo, Utah, where he met Barbara Ann Johnson. They were married on August 22, 1965, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. After starting their family he finished his schooling at the Utah State University.

The U.S. Forrest Service gave him work in Idaho Falls, ID, Logan, UT, Sterling Park, VA, Coeur d’Alene, ID, and he finally settled in St. Anthony, in 1980. After retiring from the Forrest Service in St. Anthony, he worked for the Fremont County School District as a custodian (for something to do) and later worked part time at the St. Anthony Homestead also as a custodian. He enjoyed visiting with the residents there and after Barbara’s death he decided to move to the Homestead where he continued to enjoy the association with the other residents and working on puzzles. For many years he regularly went to Green Canyon where he swam many a lap, enjoying that form of exercise.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 15, at 11:00 a.m., at the Riverview Ward Chapel, 507 West 2nd North, St. Anthony. The family will receive friends on Sunday, from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m., at Bert Flamm Mortuary, 581 E. 1st N. and then again on Monday, from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m., at the church. Burial will be in the Taylor Cemetery.
