POCATELLO — A 27-year-old man was arrested early Wednesday morning after police responded to a report that he stabbed another man in the neck.

Dylan Michael Myler has been charged with one felony count of aggravated battery. If he is found guilty, he faces up to 15 years in prison.

The Bannock County Prosecutor, Ian Johnson, has filed a motion to seek an enhanced penalty for the use of a deadly weapon. An enhancement increases the final punishment by up to 15 years.

Jay Eugene Fuson has been appointed as public defender. The Idaho State Public Defender’s Office does not comment on active cases.

According to the police booking affidavit, on Wednesday at around 3 a.m., multiple Pocatello Police officers were dispatched to a home where a person reported that a man had been stabbed in the neck.

When officers arrived, they reportedly saw Myler sitting on the porch, smoking a cigarette. He was given commands to keep his hands in the air and walk to the officers. Per the officers’ instructions, Myler was detained and placed in handcuffs. Officers say they found a small pocketknife with him.

Entering the home, officers found an older man in one of the rooms who reportedly had difficulty walking and was holding the left side of his neck. Police say the man had two puncture wounds on the left side of the neck, a cut to his right ring finger, and two open wounds on his left arm.

Officers also allegedly found blood spatter and pills scattered on the floor. Documents state the pills were for Myler, who has schizophrenia.

The victim told officers that Myler was acting strangely and, when questioned about it, Myler walked away from him.

The victim says he went to grab Myler’s pills to give to him, but Myler jumped out of bed with a knife that reportedly had a short blade.

When Myler was questioned, he told officers that the victim had scared him, so he grabbed a knife and tried to stab the victim in the neck.

He did tell officers that the victim had come to him with his medication and that the victim’s coming into the room had made him mad.

“I wanted to kill him,” Myler told the officers.

Myler is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing at 1:30 p.m. on July 8 before Magistrate Judge Aaron Thompson.

Though Myler has been charged with this crime, it does not necessarily mean he committed it. Everyone is presumed innocent until they are proven guilty.
