Hundreds of classic cars to fill up Rigby City Park on Saturday

RIGBY — For people who want to see classic cars this weekend, Rigby is the place to be.
On Saturday, hundreds of classic cars, vintage snowmobiles, motorcycles and more will fill up Rigby City Park for the 22nd Annual Rigby Hot Classic Nights Car Show and Drags. And on Friday, there will be drag races, a live music event and a free movie in the park.
“If somebody’s looking for a place to see the most amazing cars they’ve ever seen, all in one place, they’ll never see anything like Hot Classic Nights,” said Alan Hall Vice President of the Hot Classic Nights board of directors.
The festivities begin on Friday evening, with a new activity for the event. Starting at 6 p.m., there will be a Battle of the Bands performance at Rigby City Park, which will feature local high school bands, as well as other local bands, playing live music at the park.
And while people enjoy this friendly music competition, Rigby’s Lions Club chapter will be serving hamburgers and hotdogs for purchase, with additional vendors present selling drinks and other items.
Then, starting at dusk, there will be a free viewing of “The Super Mario Bros. Movie.” The festivities on Friday night will conclude with the end of the film.
“It’s a fun-filled evening … only to turn around and come back tomorrow morning,” Hall said.
The following day, after car show and drag race registrations throughout the morning, the opening ceremony will begin at noon. It will consist of a flag-raising ceremony by the local chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a 21-gun salute.
Once the opening ceremony has concluded, the car show will have officially begun. Hall expects about 500 vehicles will fill up the show.
“We have everything from drag race cars to motorcycles to supercars to just the classic cars. … We have anything and everything. Tractors come to our show. Vintage snowmobiles come to our show,” Hall said.
Throughout the day, drag races will be taking place on a closed-down street near Rigby City Park.
“The city of Rigby is so generous to let us just have an awesome event here,” Hall said.
And this is only some of what is planned throughout the day.
“It’s just a lot of noise, a lot of smoke, a lot of chrome, and we just have such an amazing time here at the show. There’s something for everyone,” Hall said.
Capping off the festivities will be the Cruise on Main, starting at 5 p.m. Drivers will exit the park and take to Main Street, allowing spectators to see the cars in action.
Hall encourages everyone, especially first-timers, to come to the show and see everything it has to offer.
“We have first-timers come that have told us, ‘I’ve heard about this for years. I’ve never made it.’ And then they come and they say, ‘It is absolutely, I couldn’t even — I don’t even know what to say. It’s just so big.’ And to see that many cars in one place is pretty rare,” Hall said.
