Idaho Falls Police hiring new officers, starting pay tops $28 an hour

IDAHO FALLS – The Idaho Falls Police Department is currently accepting applications for new police officers. The next opportunity to test is coming up on July 25th, and anyone interested in beginning a career in law enforcement is encouraged to apply now.

The starting wage for new police officers is $28 hourly. Officers receive a pay increase upon completion of their training program, as well as annual increases. Officers can also earn additional pay through shift differentials, overtime, the Career Path program, advanced certifications, and a 3% increase for officers who fluently speak Spanish or another approved language. Benefits include paid time off, paid holidays, participation in the PERSI retirement system, a robust wellness program, education assistance, and medical, dental, and vision insurance.
IFPD will host its written and physical fitness testing on Saturday, July 25th, at the Idaho Falls Police Complex. This is the first step in the hiring process. Candidates will begin the morning with a written exam designed to measure the skills, abilities, and behavioral characteristics needed to be successful police officers. In the afternoon, candidates will complete a physical fitness test that includes a 300-meter sprint, vertical jump, push-ups, sit-ups, and a 1.5-mile run.

Applicants who successfully pass the written and physical fitness tests will move forward in the hiring process, which includes a thorough background investigation, oral interviews, and medical and psychological evaluations. Qualified applicants must be U.S. citizens, at least 21 years old, high school graduates (or possess a GED equivalent), and hold a valid driver’s license.
Anyone interested in testing on July 25 is invited to attend. Participants will meet with members of IFPD involved in the hiring process, receive an overview of the written and physical fitness tests, and learn more about a career with the department.
The July 25th hiring process is expected to be IFPD’s final entry-level police officer testing opportunity of 2026. Individuals interested in joining the department are encouraged to apply during the current hiring cycle.
