Two killed in crash between SUV and motorhome near Mackay

MACKAY – Two people are dead following a two-vehicle collision in Mackay Monday morning.
It happened at 10:12 a.m. on U.S. Highway 93 near milepost 104, according to a news release from Idaho State Police.
Police say a 61-year-old Challis man — whose name was not specified — driving a 2000 GMC Yukon failed to yield while turning from North 4100 West onto Highway 93. He hit a 73-year-old California man headed south in 2022 Allegro Motorhome. The GMC driver, who an Arco resident says was from Arco, not Challis, was traveling with a 58-year-old Arco woman.
Although everyone involved was wearing a seatbelt, the people in the GMC were killed. The man in the motorhome wasn’t hurt.
Both lanes were closed while crews worked to clear the scene. ISP is still investigating.
Those who helped in the response include Custer County Sheriff’s Office, Idaho Department of Transportation, South Custer Fire Department and Mackay Fire Department.
