100-degree heat grips eastern Idaho; some relief expected midweek

IDAHO FALLS – As scorching temperatures permeate eastern Idaho on Monday afternoon, the National Weather Service in Pocatello is issuing a heat advisory until 8 p.m.
Meteorologist Greg Kaiser tells EastIdahoNews.com daytime highs will be around 100 degrees Fahrenheit for most of the U.S. Highway 20/Interstate 15 corridor.
In a Monday morning Facebook post, the Pocatello bureau urges the public to stay hydrated and to have a place to cool off.
“If you’re planning on being outside for any length of time today, plan breaks indoors or in the shade if possible,” the NWS says.
While hot temperatures are expected to continue the rest of the week, Kaiser says there will be a slight dip over the next two days. He’s forecasting mid-to-upper 90s on Tuesday. Temperatures will drop into the upper 80s on Wednesday, with a chance of showers and cloud cover.
The likelihood of rain on Wednesday is between 40 and 60%, according to Kaiser. There’s an 80% chance of rain in the higher elevations.
By Thursday and Friday, Kaiser says temperatures will tick back up into the upper 90s.
