Lindsay Clancy’s murder trial is underway in Massachusetts. The 36-year-old woman is charged with three counts of murder for the strangling deaths of her three children, ages 5, 3, and 8 months old. Clancy is present in a wheelchair after she was paralyzed by injuries she sustained when she jumped from her home’s second-story window in an alleged suicide attempt. Her defense lawyer claims she was insane at the time, suffering from postpartum psychosis, and could not appreciate the wrongfulness of her actions. We are posting live updates from the courtroom here. Time notes are Eastern Daylight Time.
Please forgive typos.

2:53 p.m. Court is in recess until Monday at 9 a.m. — no proceedings on Friday.

2:40 p.m. Prosecutors move for a security log of Lindsay’s visitors. Prosecutors say they have observed a priest and a psychiatrist, Dr. Paul Zeizel, visiting the defendant. Prosecutor argues that they’re entitled to know who is visiting Lindsay. Reddington: Father Bob is a Roman Catholic Priest. He’s a nice man. After that debacle yesterday … Judge: Let’s stay focused. Reddington: I am focused. If the CW wants the witness list, they can walk over to the desk and pick it up. Judge: I’m going to let the CW have the security logs as to Dr. Zeizel only.

2:37 p.m. Jury is being excused for the rest of the afternoon. They are instructed to return on Monday at 9 a.m.

2:27 p.m. Prosecutor: Did you see video of the family at the museum? McKelligan: Yes. (Video of the Jan. 8 visit to the Science Museum is played for the jury. Video captures Lindsay, with Callan in a body carrier, talking to her children.) Prosecutor: Did you interview Dr. Barbara Vidal Olson (ME)? McKelligan: Yes. Prosecutor: Would it be fair she was asked? Objection from defense. Prosecutor: How long did she say it would take to strangle someone to death? McKelligan: Several more minutes after loss of consciousness.
Defense Cross: Reddington: Is it true that after I took them (the prescriptions), I called the DA’s office and told them: If they want them, they can come and get them? McKelligan: I don’t know what you said.

10:27 a.m. Commonwealth Witness No. 69: Sgt. Timothy Chiappini, Mass State Police. Retrieved data from Lindsay’s phone from November to December of 2022. Analysis of web history from phone indicates the search “Can you treat a Sociopath?” on Jan. 20, 2023.
Note in Lindsay’s phone reads (rough transcription): I’m sad and depressed. I can’t parent my child like my first. I’m sad I stopped breastfeeding. I don’t feel as connected to Cal. It’s not fair to them. … I was feeling so depressed … we had a rough evening … internal conflict, I still don’t want Cal to be our last … I’m on the fence about a new medication … I want to feel happy … I want to hang out with Pat … Cal is so desired. I want to give him all the love he deserves. I think I know he will be OK. I’m sad I’m not breastfeeding anymore. Deep down, I know these are the right choices. … Sleep training Cal. I can’t catch up on sleep. When Cal naps, I have to take care of Cora and Dawson. I feel slightly traumatized about the sleep training. I was stressed about the pumping. It was a battle of whether I should pump or not. I need to be able to leave Cal with someone. I need to be able to be present. I would like a 4th child. I want to feel happy. I need breastfeeding off my plate. I want to parent each of my kids the way I did with my first child, do activities with them. I felt depressed after Cora. I’ve fallen out of the habit of doing anything fun. I had a deep sleep. I am terrified about messing up my kids. All the scary things happening in the world.
