Robert “Bob” Reiley

Robert Marvin Reiley, 83, passed away on August 9, 2026, at the Rexburg Homestead Assisted Living Center after several spirited, though unsuccessful, attempts at escape. Born March 25, 1943, in Rexburg, Idaho, he grew up a Teton Valley boy. Known as “Marvin” back home in the Valley, he became “Bob” after leaving. Of all the names he went by, “Grandpa Bob” was favorite.

Bob’s spirit of adventure began in Badger Creek, where he spent his youth horseback riding, hunting, fishing, and farming. This adventurous soul remained with him until the very end.

After graduating from Teton High School, Bob attended Ricks College, working summers for the Forest Service. He later attended barber school in Salt Lake City, which helped fund his education and kept him near his sweetheart, Lynda Jardine, whom he’d known since kindergarten. They were married in the Idaho Falls Temple on August 29, 1963.

Bob continued his education at Idaho State University, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in history and English. His teaching career began in Ely, Nevada, where he taught English, history, and seminary (likely without reading the entire Book of Mormon). After three years, Bob and Lynda returned to Idaho, making St. Anthony their forever home.

A lifelong learner, Bob’s resume was as varied as his interests: licensed barber, commercial and residential real estate broker, business owner, auctioneer, part-owner of High Country Auction, horse trainer, farrier, and part-time farmer.

Bob cherished his time in the mountains, taking pack trips with family and friends. At home, he enjoyed irrigating his land, sharpening knives, and reading history. Two of his favorite companions were his Tennessee Walker mule, Princess Long Ears, and his beloved dog, Mickey.

He is survived by his children, Angie (Les) Fadness and Roger Reiley; his brother, Brent Reiley; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Carmen Arnold Reiley; his brother, Royce Reiley; his sister, Jerelyn Hill; and his grandson, Mitch Fadness.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, August 17, at the St. Anthony Yellowstone Ward building, 145 E 1st N, St. Anthony, Idaho with Bishop RJ Thueson officiating. The family will hold a visitation for friends and family Sunday evening from 6:00-7:30 PM, and before the funeral service on Monday from 12:00-12:45 PM, both times at the church.

Interment will be in the Cache Clawson Cemetery under the direction of Bert Flamm Mortuary.
