He delivered packages for over 30 years. We showed up with a special Feel Good Friday delivery for him.
Published atEastIdahoNews.com is partnering with Smith Honda in Idaho Falls to honor people in our community for Feel Good Friday. Every week, we surprise someone deserving of special recognition.
We recently learned about a longtime UPS man who retired after serving a community for decades.
The email we received said:
Ken Foster has been the UPS delivery man in our rural community of Jefferson County – Hamer, Terreton, Mud Lake, Monteview – for over 30 years. He retired on April 24, and many of our community members left kind comments on a community Facebook post that Ken will never see since he is not on social media. That’s why I thought it would be a good idea to nominate him for Feel Good Friday.
One of our community members, Candace Cope, said it best:
“To our beloved UPS Ken, CONGRATULATIONS on your retirement!!! I do not ever remember a time in my lifetime when there was any other UPS driver in our area! It’s just always been Ken! Ken is not only a legend for the incomprehensible number of miles he’s driven through blizzards, dust storms, dirt roads, and late nights, but also for the innumerable packages he delivered! Dare I say millions?? Ken has always gone above and beyond, taking the time to carefully place our packages somewhere safe and out of the weather, and has been a friend to all. Always smiling, always waving, and always up for a quick chat about farming or the weather. Our whole community is deeply grateful for your friendship and service! We will miss you! But we are also thrilled for you for your next chapter! Thanks again for everything, Ken!”
Ken knew all of us by name and greeted us like we were his best friends every time he saw us. He has been the epitome of what customer service should look like, and he has left some really big shoes to fill! A few years back, he went through cancer treatments that required him to take time off work. We were quickly reminded how much we love and appreciate Ken, and how much we have depended on him throughout the years because his temporary replacement drivers just didn’t compare. Several times, I have told Ken that I wish he could train all of our UPS, FedEx and Amazon drivers on the right way to be a delivery person! I would love to see Ken receive a thank you for your Feel Good Friday segment. He is a very humble man and might be a little shy about recognition. Besides driving for UPS, he owns a small farm and a herd of cattle.
We tracked Ken down at his home and surprised him for Feel Good Friday. Check out the video in the player above!
