Pocatello man charged with aggravated battery after physical altercation

POCATELLO — A Pocatello man was charged with aggravated battery after fighting with two other men.
Russell Hough, 38, was arrested on Aug. 22 for his alleged involvement in a fight on East Center Street and South 2nd Avenue.
Police say in court records that Hough kicked a woman, causing her to fall backward into the street.
A man who was Hough’s friend walked by and got involved, according to the affidavit of probable cause. Hough reportedly tried to convince his friend to leave while continuing to hit the woman.
Police report the woman hit Hough in the back of the head. He pulled out a gun, pointed it at the victim’s feet, and shot the ground. The shrapnel from Hough’s pistol hit him in the left eye, injuring his eyelid.
When asked, Hough stated that he hit the victim to stop the fight and shot the gun, but only at the ground. After being given permission to search for the gun, the officer on scene found a loaded Glock 19 with a belt clip in the backseat pocket of his car.
Though Hough has been charged with this crime, it does not necessarily mean he committed it. Everyone is presumed innocent until they are proven guilty.
Hough is being represented by a public defender. The Idaho State Public Defender’s office does not comment on pending cases.
