Kathlene Young

Kathlene passed away peacefully on September 3, 2026, at home surrounded by her loving family.

Kathlene Janette Bishoff was born on February 15, 1956, in Rexburg, Idaho to Ruben and DeEsta Bishoff. She was the 3rd child born of six sisters. She lived in a small house in Sugar City and when she was very young, they moved to a much larger home on the Teton Highway which put them closer to the Wilford farm. She learned the value of hard work growing up on a farm as well as how to be an excellent homemaker and cook.

In about 1965 they moved to Salem. Kathlene attended Newdale Elementary School, followed by the Old Park School in Sugar City and later graduated from Sugar Salem High School in 1974. She enjoyed school and participated in the Business Club and the Pep Club. This is where her lifelong friendship with Peggy Price and Jill Kunz began. After High school she attended Ricks College for 1 year where she received a certificate in Secretarial Training. A few days after graduating, she was working at Dietrich Insurance. She really enjoyed working with the people there and interacting with the customers.

On June 18, 1975, she married Cleve Young in the Idaho Falls Temple. They were later joined by children Kerby Bishoff Young and Jessica Marie Young. After Jessica was born, she became a full-time homemaker, and she was excellent at that. When the kids grew older, she worked as an Office Assistant for the LDS church’s Facility management group. A job she really enjoyed, until downsizing brought it to an end.

Kathlene lived in Plano, Idaho for 27 years. Once she became familiar with rural life, she loved Plano and especially the people. They treated her with so much love and kindness, but she was easy to love. She became part of the “Lunch Bunch” with Valerie Robison, Sherri Parkinson Dyer, Marie Rasmussen, Vickie Raybould, and Vicki Parkinson. They spent many years together eating, laughing, and then eating some more. She always cherished those friendships.

In 2005, Cleve and Kathlene moved to Rexburg where she became a part of a new ward where she was loved by all and developed more special friends. No matter where she lived, she always maintained a close relationship with her sisters by traveling and being together anytime they could.

Kathlene loved to travel with Cleve. She loved Disneyland, Disney World, Niagara Falls, and the Black Hills, but mostly her trips to Hawaii. She enjoyed nature and loved scenery so riding atv’s with Cleve was a treat if the trails were mild and the flowers plentiful.

Kathlene was the sweetest, kindest person you would ever know. She was so very thoughtful and spontaneous with her generosity and kindness. She loved being a wife and mother but being “Grandma” was by far her favorite. Her granddaughters were incredibly special to her; she had the uncanny ability to know when people were hurting and was always there to help. She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served valiantly in a variety of callings in the church with Den Mother as her favorite.

Kathlene is survived by her loving husband Cleve, children Kerby Bishoff Young, Jessica Marie Campbell (Chris) and granddaughters Kayla and Adalyn, Sisters Mary (Jim) Tkachyk, Nancy (Steve) Cook, Julie Bishoff and Amy Butler. She was preceded in death by her parents Ruben and DeEsta Bishoff, sister Margie McDowell and brother-in-law Ron Butler.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at the Henderson 1st Ward Chapel (170 West 1st South Rexburg) at 11:00 am. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00 am to 10:45 am as well as on Friday, September 11, 2026, at Flamm Funeral Home from 5:30 pm till 7:00 pm. Interment will be held at the Plano Cemetery.
