Lynn E Longhurst

My old, worn-out body has betrayed me for too long. I’ve moved on to bigger, better things on September 15, 2026. I’m Lynn Longhurst, born March 15, 1944, to Eddie and Beth Longhurst from Iona. Beth, a beloved schoolteacher, enjoyed children immensely. I was the only child they were able to have-so they doted on me. We lived a charmed life together in a little house in Shelley, right across from the school mother taught in. Horses, hard work, games and extended family fun filled my childhood.

While earning my education degree at Utah State, I met the beautiful Lin Lee Browning of Iona, We became ‘Lynn/Lin squared”: what a match! Our three wonderful kids were the apples of our eyes. We encouraged them to follow their dreams-which they each did and made me so proud to be their dad. I taught algebra in Shelley for a few years, then turned to selling cars since it was more profitable for our family.

Always interested in horses, I was the fortunate owner of a few great racehorses that brought me excitement in my circle of friends. I was lucky enough to travel around the western U.S. to visit a few premier horse ranches as well as golf courses. Those were some fun adventures.

In midlife, sunny winters started calling my name; so, I bought a condo in Sun City West, AZ to beat the East Idaho wintertime blahs. I developed some health issues around then, and the nicer climate certainly supported my health better. I made so many wonderful friends during the 23 winters I spent there.

In 2022, traveling to AZ became challenging and I wanted more time in my hometown. These last four years have been wonderful: drinking coffee and bullsh!tt!ng with my buddies, lunches with all my friends at the Shelley Senior Center, spending holidays with my family. I was full of wit and humor all the way to the end, just ask any of my kids the joke to the punch line “flip a coin!”

It’s been an amazing life; one that I felt was better than I deserved. But then again, early in my journey, I understood what was most important to me: relationships built by listening, caring, and being there for each other. I really loved people because they shared their stories and their lives with me. I have so many friends that have spanned much of my life, as well as dear friends developed in these later years. I never cared much about material things in this world, but I was a very rich man for all the people who loved me. And you know that I love you all back even more.

Please look after the special people I leave behind; my kids, Todd (Monica), Cara (Robert), Chris (Nicole) and grandchildren Kade, Madysen (Bret), Kamren, Asher as well as great-grandchildren, Rafe and Ronan. If you’re hearing these words, I trust you know that you mean a lot to me, so please take care of each other.

Please join us Thursday, September 24, 2026 at Nalder Funeral Home (110 W. Oak Shelley) at 5:30 pm for a visitation, the celebration of life will immediately follow. On Friday, September 25, 2026 we will hold an inurnment service and grave dedication at the Iona Cemetery at 11:00 am (4962 1st Street, Idaho Falls).
