Donna Mae Hopperdietzel

Donna Mae Hopperdietzel, 98, of Idaho Falls, passed away September 19, 2026, at Parkwood Meadows Assisted Living Community.

Donna was born August 19, 1928, in White River, South Dakota, to Roy Hartwell Cassidy and Verna M. Cassidy. She grew up and attended schools in White River, South Dakota.

On March 8, 1947, she married Melvin H. Wehnes in Custer, South Dakota. Together they shared many years of family life and raised their children. Melvin later preceded her in death.

On June 12, 1994, she married Paul Hopperdietzel in South Dakota. Donna and Paul shared their later years together until his passing.

Donna was a longtime member of Hope Lutheran Church, where her faith and church community were an important part of her life. She generously gave of her time through Braille work at the church.

Donna enjoyed sewing, tole painting, spending time outdoors, and, most of all, spending time with her family. Her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren were a tremendous source of pride and joy throughout her life.

Donna will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her independence, and the pride she took in the generations of family that followed her. At 98 years old, she had the rare blessing of knowing not only her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, but her great-great-grandchildren as well. Her long life touched several generations, and her memory will continue to live on through the family she loved so deeply.

Donna is survived by her daughter, Jacqueline “Jackie” Orvik of Idaho Falls, ID; 3 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Verna Cassidy; her first husband, Melvin H. Wehnes; her second husband, Paul Hopperdietzel; her son, Ronnie Wehnes; her daughter, Pam Reives; her grandson, Lester Reives; and her brother, Jim Cassidy.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at Hope Lutheran Church, 2071 12th Street in Idaho Falls, with Pastor Garen Pay officiating. The family will visit with friends from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the services at the church.
