Downtown Idaho Falls Oktoberfest returns with bigger, reimagined celebration

IDAHO FALLS – Oktoberfest returns to downtown Idaho Falls this weekend and organizers say this year’s event has been reimagined for a much bigger crowd.
The annual celebration is happening Saturday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and will include live music, food, beer and wine, games, and activities. The public is invited to attend what organizers are calling “a larger, more inclusive” celebration and “experience downtown Idaho Falls in a whole new way!”
“Downtown Idaho Falls is our city’s living room,” Idaho Falls Downtown Development Executive Director Kerry Hammon says in a news release. “This is the gathering place — warm, welcoming, and full of life. We’ve elevated the Downtown Oktoberfest to reflect exactly that: a celebration that brings our whole community together, right in the neighborhood that makes Idaho Falls so special.”
The 2026 festival will stretch the full length of Park Avenue, from Broadway north B Street and Civitan Plaza, and transform the historic street into “a lively, vintage-inspired festival experience.”
Live music will begin at 5 p.m. Two local bands — Perfect Chaos and PreDawn Flight — will take the stage on Park Avenue, performing near The Celt Pub and Highlands Mortgage.
Throughout the event, community members are invited to browse local shops and enjoy activities, games, and entertainment on Park Avenue.
Downtown’s beloved pubs, bars, and restaurants are part of the celebration. Locals can step inside, or linger on the avenue, and enjoy food, drinks, and the warm hospitality that defines the downtown district.
“Downtown Idaho Falls is more than a destination — it’s a community,” Hammon says. “A place to slow down, reconnect, dine, shop, explore, and celebrate life alongside the people who make this city great.”
Oktoberfest, known as “the world’s largest folk festival,” is an annual event celebrated in communities across the globe. It’s famous for beer, Bavarian food, live music, traditional clothing, parades, and amusement rides. The festival dates back to 1810 in Munich, Germany, where it was originally a public celebration of the wedding of Crown Prince Ludwig of Bavaria and Princess Therese, according to the city of Munich’s website.
Despite the name, most of it actually happens in September, when Munich generally has better weather.
Millions of German immigrants immigrated to America in the 19th century. The influx helped popularize beer-centered celebrations and Oktoberfest was eventually adopted in America.
The Knights of Columbus began hosting an Oktoberfest celebration in Idaho Falls and Pocatello in 2009, according to the Idaho State Journal. The downtown celebration started in 2023.
Oktoberfest is sponsored by Snakebite, Timeless Taphouse, The Celt, Bob’s Indoor Golf, Hoop Basketball Trailer, Idaho Walk & Bike Alliance, and Samoa Club.
Hammon says she’s grateful to everyone who makes the local celebration possible and invites everyone to be part of it.

Park Avenue will be closed to traffic on Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. A Street and B Street will remain open all day. Drivers are encouraged to slow down, use caution, and watch for increased pedestrian traffic. For parking information, click here.
