Prosecutors seem to be winding up their case six days into the trial of Caleb Flynn, a former “American Idol” contestant charged with the murder of his wife. Caleb, a 40-year-old Ohio man known for his 2013 appearance on the reality TV singing competition, is accused of fatally shooting Ashley Flynn.
Ashley, a 37-year-old mother of two, was killed inside the couple’s Tipp City, Ohio, home on Feb. 16 of this year. In a 911 call made early that morning, Caleb told dispatchers he had been sleeping in another room and woke up to find his wife dead. He said he thought someone had broken into their home and shot Ashley.
Three days later, police placed Caleb under arrest for investigation of murder and evidence tampering. Prosecutors later charged him with multiple felonies, alleging he shot and killed Ashley and then staged the crime scene to look like a burglary-gone-wrong. His motive, they say, was a desperation to continue a romantic relationship with his mistress, Alleigha Botner.
Botner took the stand on Wednesday afternoon and is expected to be questioned most of the day Thursday.
