After both the State of Ohio and the defense rested their cases on Monday, the judge for Caleb Flynn’s murder trial told the court to prepare for closing arguments on Tuesday.
Flynn, a 40-year-old Ohio man known for his 2013 appearance on “American Idol,” is charged with murder in the fatal shooting of his wife, Ashley Flynn. In a 911 call made in the early morning hours of Feb. 16, Flynn told dispatchers he had been sleeping in another room and woke up to find his wife dead; he said he thought someone had broken into their home and shot Ashley.
Three days later, police placed Flynn under arrest for investigation of murder and evidence tampering. Prosecutors later charged him with multiple felonies, alleging he shot and killed Ashley and then staged the crime scene to look like a burglary-gone-wrong. His motive, they say, was a desperation to continue a romantic relationship with his mistress, Alleigha Botner.
