POCATELLO — Drivers heading to Costco in Pocatello will need to plan for detours beginning Monday evening as crews start replacing damaged concrete along Yellowstone Avenue.

The Idaho Transportation Department will begin work at the intersection of Yellowstone Avenue (U.S. Highway 91) and Flandro Drive. Several turning movements will be restricted to give construction crews a safe work zone.

Drivers leaving Costco will not be able to turn right onto Yellowstone Avenue from eastbound Flandro Drive. Instead, they should use the parking lot exit to the south.

Motorists traveling north on Yellowstone Avenue will also be unable to turn left onto Flandro Drive toward Costco. Drivers will need to use Quinn Road and Hiline Road to get around the closure.

Costco detours

The pedestrian crosswalk on the southwest side of the intersection, near Costco, will also be closed. Pedestrians will need to use Pearl Street to reach their destinations.

The traffic changes are expected to remain in place through October. The overall project is anticipated to be completed in 2027.

ITD says several sections of Yellowstone Avenue have deteriorated after years of heavy use. The concrete replacement is intended to improve the busy corridor, which serves nearby businesses, homes and other services. The new concrete is expected to last about 20 years.
