Faith Hedgepeth Trial Day 9: Defendant sobs, investigator questioned, state rests
Published atAfter nine days of testimony, the prosecution has rested its case in the trial of Miguel Salguero-Olivares, the man accused of raping and murdering 19-year-old UNC student Faith Hedgepeth in 2012.
But before the state could close its case, the defense spent hours challenging the investigation, questioning detectives about witnesses they never interviewed, surveillance footage that no longer exists, and evidence surrounding the night Hedgepeth was killed.
On tonight’s “Courtroom Insider,” we take you inside a pivotal day in court when Salguero-Olivares sobbed while a jailhouse video call was played. Jurors heard emotional phone call recordings from the jail, saw the defendant holding handwritten notes up to a woman during a video call, and listened as investigators faced tough questions about decisions they made.
Grace Wong was inside the courtroom and will join Nate Eaton with the latest.
