Developer - East Idaho News

Developer

Website EastIdahoNews.com

Help us grow!

EastIdahoNews.com, the #1 news website in eastern Idaho, is expanding its footprint in the Gem State and beyond.

We are seeking a developer to help make our WordPress website more modular, ensuring we won’t have to recreate styling and functionality from scratch every time we launch a new site. This will have the added benefit of maintaining a consistent look and feel across EastIdahoNews.com properties.

Our current theme has worked well for us, but it was created with only EastIdahoNews.com in mind. We need to spin off much of the functionality into separate plugins and make a basic parent theme that individual properties’ child themes will be based on.

This position is contractual for six months, with the possibility of being converted to a full-time role at the end of the project. The base pay is hourly, and bonuses will be awarded when certain milestones are reached.

The ideal candidate:

  • Knows the backend of WordPress well – themes, plugins and best practices.
  • Has a good knowledge of PHP, HTML/CSS/JavaScript.
  • Possesses UI/UX skills. You don’t want to create something ugly, do you?
  • Is familiar with Git/GitHub.
  • Is organized, consistent, and meets goals.
  • Works well in small teams or unsupervised.
  • Doesn’t hesitate to ask questions and seeks to understand the needs of EastIdahoNews.com.

Having some familiarity with the communications field (journalism or otherwise) is a big plus. And if you don’t have a sense of humor, don’t bother applying.
