Why does Lisa want to be mayor of Idaho Falls?

Why is she the best person for the job?

Lisa Burtenshaw isn’t just running for mayor — she’s running to serve the community that has shaped her life for more than 50 years. She loves this town, and she knows it like no one else can.

She was raised here, and she is both a Meikle and a Burtenshaw. She understands agriculture, property rights, and Idaho water law because they’re part of her life story — and part of what drives our local economy.

She and her high-school sweetheart — now her husband — own a small business right here, creating jobs, coaching youth sports, and giving back to the community that supported them. She raised her children here, and now her daughter is raising the next generation of Burtenshaws here too.

Lisa has spent her life walking these neighborhoods, biking our trails, skiing our mountains, and volunteering in our schools. She’s baked cookies for fundraisers, handed out diplomas, tutored students, laid sod, balanced budgets, and scooped rubber duckys out of the river. She’s lived the life of an Idaho Falls neighbor, PTO mom, public servant and she’s loved every minute of it.

Lisa gets things done

On the School Board:

• Helped launch Compass Academy, expanding school choice before it was a buzzword.
• Led the charge to rebuild and renovate 4 schools, delivering projects on time and under budget.
• Rallied the community to raise more than $1 million in 18 months to build home fields for IFHS students.
• Pledged to never support a city bond that would interfere with a school bond because she knows strong schools make strong communities.

On the City Council:

• Worked to make city government more transparent, efficient, and responsive.
• When residents raised concerns about the Water Tower, she helped find a better solution that fit the community.
• When the Parks Department needed SOD, she rallied volunteers to lay it herself.
• Supported community partnerships: from historic signage to park improvements to the renovation of the Civic Auditorium — that celebrate Idaho Falls’ history and spirit.
• Enrolled in the Citizens Police Academy and Firefighter Training to better understand and support our first responders.
• When the airport added a new flight, she booked a seat on one of the first American Airlines flights out of IDA because she believes in showing up.
