We’ve read Proposition 1. Here’s why we’re opposed.
Parental rights
Proposition 1 would establish a right to abortion for “every person.” Opponents argue this would eliminate Idaho’s existing parental-consent protections for minors seeking an abortion.
Later-term abortions
Proposition 1 uses a new definition of “viability.” Opponents argue the language could allow abortions later in pregnancy than Idaho’s current law permits.
Who can perform abortions?
Proposition 1 uses the term “health care provider” rather than limiting abortion procedures to physicians. Opponents argue this could expand who is legally authorized to perform abortions.
