Obituary
Anita Lucille Ferguson
September 25th, 1946 - June 17th, 2025
Our beautiful and loving mother, grandmother, and wife, Anita Lucille Ferguson, passed away on June 17, 2025, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. She was 78 and lived most of her adult life in Ririe, Idaho.
Anita was born on September 25, 1946, in Evansville, Indiana, to Virgil and Madeline Mitchell. She moved when she was young and spent her youth in Black Mountain, North Carolina. She loved school, especially reading, and graduated from Charles D. Owen High School.
After landing a job with TWA in Kansas City, she met Brent Ferguson, who was serving in the United States Air Force. They married in 1967 at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas. Soon after, their first child, Donna, was born. After the military, they moved to Brent’s hometown, Ririe, Idaho. Their second child, Brett, was born, and they enjoyed living in Idaho for a few years. Anita helped raise the family as they moved from Ririe to Boise, Idaho, Sparks, Nevada, Grand Junction, Colorado, and Longmont, Colorado. While in Longmont, her third child, Gerald, was born. They eventually moved back to Ririe, Idaho, in 1988, where she lived until 2025.
Anita enjoyed many activities over the years. Along with being involved in her children’s lives, she enjoyed cross-stitching, sewing, cultivating indoor plants, and keeping up with sports like football, tennis, and golf. She was a voracious reader and loved a good book. Anita was a friend to every cat she met. She made sure that if there was a stray in the area, it received more than one good meal.
Anita is survived by her husband, Brent Ferguson of Ririe; daughter Donna Hill (Casey) of Idaho Falls; son Brett Ferguson (Taunya) of Idaho Falls; eight grandchildren (Ian, Isaac, Jace, Nicole (Clay), Hannah, Ryan, Brysen, and Ella); and one great-granddaughter, Mia. She was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Madeline Mitchell; sisters Dorma Lynn Spencer and Martha Dillingham; her son, Gerald C. Ferguson; and a great-grandson, Liam Wasden.
Graveside services will be held at the Ririe-Shelton Cemetery on Tuesday, June 24, at 11:00 a.m.
If you would rather help a kitty out than send flowers, we know Anita would appreciate it. Please consider donating to the Snake River Animal Shelter or a shelter of your choice.
