Bernice Shirley
September 1st, 1928 - June 4th, 2026
Bernice W. Shirley, 97, of Ammon, passed away June 4, 2026, surrounded by loving family members.
Bernice was born September 1, 1928, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Alex Weber and Freeda Christensen Weber. She grew up and attended schools in Burton and Rexburg, Idaho. She attended Ricks College, graduating in 1952, with a nursing degree.
On October 31, 1952, she married Fred D. Shirley in Rexburg, Idaho. Bernice worked as a registered nurse for several agencies including Madison and Jefferson counties, Sacred Heart Hospital, Riverview hospital, and EIRMC. As a public health nurse, Bernice transported and administered the first polio vaccine in Madison county. She retired from her nursing career in 1991.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and helped the church with genealogy work. She enjoyed pinochle, genealogy, crossword puzzles, and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She stayed active in her later years frequently working out at a gym until she was 90.
Bernice is survived by her daughter, Linda Marie Graves of Wichita, KS; daughter, Kim (Cac Turner) Shirley of Pocatello, ID; son, Daniel (Janice) Shirley of Idaho Falls, ID; grandchildren, Alyssa Kornmann, Jacob Shirley, and Austin Shirley; and great-grandchild, Lane Kornmann.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred D. Shirley, Jr., father, Alex Weber, mother, Freeda Weber, sister, Rayola Neider, sister, Thelma Kington, sister, Shirlene Chandler.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at the Rexburg Cemetery.
