Elizabeth “Betty” Ann Walker, 78, of Arco, Idaho, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2026, surrounded by her family whom she loved deeply.

Betty was born March 8, 1947, to Marie Taggart and John MacDonald in Louisiana. Her childhood was filled with aunts, uncles and cousins in Louisiana. Her father’s military service eventually took the family to Connecticut, where she attended high school and was active in cheerleading. After high school, Betty traveled, living in Florida and again in Louisiana before settling in New Hampshire to attend college. While in New Hampshire, she met an Idaho farmer serving in the Navy and the rest, as they say, is history. Betty married Harvey Walker on September 27, 1969.

Following Harvey’s military service, they moved to Boise to enjoy more of “city life” and eventually to Arco where Betty became a full-time Mom and farmer’s wife. Through the ups and downs of rural life she always made sure the family was well fed and taken care of. Betty was a fantastic cook and could make a meal out of just about anything.

Betty made the best of the social activities offered in Arco. She was especially fond of bowling, participating in Arco Monday night women’s league. Her team was sponsored by M&M (Mike and Marcia Porter) and it was not uncommon for her and teammate, Marlene Folkman, to break down the night’s game over drinks at the Mello Dee. She also enjoyed ceramics, sewing, golf league, and traveling to the east coast to see family or Las Vegas with Harvey. She made beautiful quilts, ensuring each grandchild got a special grandma quilt. She was a huge sports fan, following her kids and grandkids’ athletic endeavors like a true fan. She was prone to “close the shop” for March Madness and almost always had a game on at home.

Her true joy was her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved for them to visit and would ensure they were well fed and had plenty to do. She especially enjoyed her grandkids during the holidays.

Betty is survived by her husband Harvey Walker of Arco; her children Ed (Randi) Walker of Boise, Missy (Mike) Sitts of Wilder, and Jody (Chris) Maddocks of Parma; and her grandchildren Bryant, Rem, Ruby, Hailey, Tyler and Dani.

She was preceded in death by her mother Marie Taggart, stepdad Frank Taggart, and father John MacDonald.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Grace Assisted Living for all of the compassion, care and love they showed Betty during her stay in recent months.

Due to Betty’s wishes, there will not be a service. She requested for her ashes to be spread in the Atlantic Ocean where she spent many wonderful days as a kid enjoying the beach.

Cremation services are under the care of the Anderson Family Funeral Home in Arco.
