RIGBY, ID — Cathryn Marie Nordstrom Radford, a devoted mother, beloved grandmother, and faithful disciple of Jesus Christ, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2025, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, at the age of 67.
Born April 23, 1958, in Salt Lake City, Utah, Cathryn spent her early childhood in Carey and Gooding, Idaho, before moving to Rigby in 1971—a place that would ultimately become home in the deepest sense of the word.
As a young woman, Cathryn caught the eye of a motorcycle-riding young man who followed her through town—an encounter that led to a lifelong love. She and her beloved husband, Steven Wendell Radford, were married on October 30, 1976. They were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls Temple on October 29, 1977. Cathryn and Steve were steadfast covenant keepers and best friends for nearly 45 years, building a life anchored in faith, devotion and love.
In 1982, Cathryn and Steve moved to Kennewick, Washington, where they raised their largely growing family. In 1999, they returned to Rigby, spending much of the next 25 years surrounded by the community and landscape they cherished. Southeastern Idaho was their true home.
A 1976 graduate of Rigby High School, Cathryn dedicated her life to her family, raising eight children who were the center of her world and later delighting in the joy of being a grandmother to thirteen beloved grandchildren. Her unwavering love and presence were constants in the lives of those she cared for.
Cathryn was a lifelong and devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served faithfully in many callings, always especially joyful when teaching young children the gospel. Her testimony was steadfast, and she instilled in her children a deep love for Jesus Christ. She also had a passion for family history and found great purpose in connecting with and learning about her ancestors.
Cathryn had a talent for making a house a home. She loved home decorating, knitting beautiful creations for loved ones, cooking large meals (she never quite learned to downsize) for her family or hosting any family gathering. When she was alone, she could be found studying her scriptures or learning her family history.
She was unceasingly selfless—quick to give, quick to serve, and happiest when others were at peace. It was often said that her preferences were hard to pin down, not because she didn’t have them, but because her happiness was tied to that of those around her. She loved fiercely and made sure her family never doubted it.
Cathryn is survived by her eight children: Cathryn Nicole (Vern) Peterson of Richland, Wash., Preston Radford of Loa, Utah, Jonathan Radford of Pocatello, Kristen (Rick) Price of San Clemente, Calif., Steven Daniel (Melanie) Radford of Rexburg, Marisa Radford of Rigby, Aaron (Haley) Radford of Otis Orchards, Wash., and Michael (Carmen) Radford of Provo, Utah; her siblings Bart (Sonja) Nordstrom, Gary Layne Nordstrom, and Colette (Blake) Smith; and her cherished grandchildren: Samuel Chase Peterson, Nicholas Peterson, Joseph Peterson, Astoria Radford, Sylvie Radford, Dresden Price, Georgia Radford, Radford Price, James Price, Evie Radford, Tripp Radford, Wilder Price, and Fox Radford.
She is preceded in death by her dear husband, Steven Wendell Radford; her parents, Ruth Marie Stringam Nordstrom and Gary Lee Nordstrom; and her brother, Thomas Jeffrey Nordstrom.
A public viewing will be held on Thursday, June 19, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Eckersell Funeral Home, 101 W Main Street, Rigby, ID. Funeral services will take place on Friday, June 20, at 1 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 258 W 1st North, Rigby, ID, with a family and friends viewing beginning at 11:30 a.m.
Cathryn’s legacy of faith, kindness and boundless love will live in the hearts of those who knew her. While her absence leaves an unimaginable ache, her example leaves a path of faith for all who knew her.
