Derrick Denning Bryan, 57, of Idaho Falls, passed away August 25, 2026 at his home.

Derrick was born on July 3, 1969, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He was the son of Rodney Noel Bryan and Lynne Denning Bryan and grew up surrounded by family in the community he would call home for much of his life. He attended many schools over the years and graduated from Idaho Falls High School.

To those who knew him throughout his life, Derrick was many things, but above all, he was a dad to his daughter Josie Bryan of Charlottesville, Virginia and his son, Jake Bryan-Everett of Port Orange, Florida. Although life and circumstances created distance, there was never a question for the love he had for his children. He cared deeply about Josie and Jake and carried his love for them throughout his life. They were, and always will be, the most important part of his story.

Derrick had a natural love for sports and the outdoors. He was an all-star baseball player in his younger years. He enjoyed golf, especially when he could share days on the course with family and friends. Derrick found some of his greatest joy in being surrounded by others.

Derrick’s life was marked by a long and difficult struggle with addiction. It was a battle that affected many parts of his life and caused pain for both Derrick and those who loved him. But addiction was only one part of his story, it does not erase the person he was or the love he gave.

After years of living with a battle that was often bigger than he could overcome, Derrick is finally free. He no longer has to carry the weight of addiction, and his family finds comfort in knowing that he is at peace. May he be remembered with compassion for the life he lived, the struggles he endured, the love he gave, and the moments of happiness he shared with the people who mattered to him.

Derrick is survived by his father, Rodney Noel Bryan of Ammon, Idaho; his daughter, Josie Bryan of Charlottesville, Virginia; his son, Jake Bryan-Everett of Port Orange, Florida; his brothers, Jeremy (Janice) Bryan and Cameron (Kimberly) Bryan, both of Idaho Falls; and his sister, Holly (Ryan) Summers of Idaho Falls.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Lynne Bryan; his grandfather, Edward Denning; and his grandmother, Edna Denning.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 5, 2026, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road. The family will visit with friends Thursday, September 3, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00-10:45 a.m. prior to services, with both visitations held at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Ammon Cemetery.

Services will be broadcast live at www.woodfuneralhome.com.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make a phone call. Call someone you’ve been meaning to connect with. Tell them you love them, tell them you’re thinking of them, or simply ask how they’re doing. Derrick’s life reminds us that we never know how much time we have, so please don’t leave the important things unsaid. Make the call for him.

Condolences may be sent to the family through Wood Funeral Home.
