Obituary
Doug Hillman
June 15th, 1957 - March 31st, 2026
Douglas Glenn Hillman, 68, of Idaho Falls, passed away March 31, 2026, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.
Doug was born June 15, 1957, in Twin Falls, Idaho, to Chester Keith Hillman and Glenda Pearl Andrews Hillman. He grew up and attended schools in Twin Falls and graduated from Twin Falls High School. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America, where he attained the highest rank of Eagle Scout. He enjoyed running track and cross country in high school. Doug proudly served in the United States Navy from 1976 to 1982, in the nuclear program. Later in his career, he attended Idaho State University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree.
On August 18, 1979, he married Karen Beth Taylor (whom he affectionately referred to as Karen Beth) in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He was baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on September 18, 1979. They were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple on September 18, 1980. After moving around in the early years of their marriage, Doug and Karen made their home in Idaho Falls for the last 35 years, where Doug worked his way up to become the Director of Training for INL. He retired in May 2019.
Doug’s wholehearted love for the gospel of Jesus Christ was the essence of his character. He proudly served in many capacities in the Church, including scout leader, Young Men’s leader, Sunday School teacher, high councilman, and bishop. He loved arriving early to church so he could greet everyone coming into the chapel. He had integrity in every aspect of his life—home, career, and church.
Although he accomplished so much in his life, his greatest achievement was being the world’s best grandpa. He had 16 grandchildren whom he constantly doted on. Considering his love of precision and order, he was especially proud that there were eight grandsons and eight granddaughters.
Doug is survived by his beloved wife, Karen Beth Taylor Hillman of Idaho Falls, ID; his son, Brian (Dayna) Hillman of Kennewick, WA, and their children, Sydney (Logan) Brady, Payton, and Kate; his daughter, Heather (Ricky) Bowman of Meridian, ID, and their children, Kyle, Jane, and Seth; his daughter, Laura (Jerry) Hall of Shelley, ID, and their children, Ethan, Gretchen, and Evelyn; his daughter, Valerie (Joe) Stewart of Rigby, ID, and their children, Jacob, Owen, and Hudson; his daughter, Michelle (Daniel) Price of Shelley, ID, and their children, Adelyn, Henry, Grayson, and Paisley; his mother, Glenda Pearl Hillman of Twin Falls, ID; his brother, Terry Hillman of Twin Falls, ID; and his sister, Pam (Gary) Monroe of Filer, ID.
He was preceded in death by his father, Chester Keith Hillman; his father-in-law, Byron Charles Taylor; and his mother-in-law, Marion Gene Taylor.
His family would like to thank the Idaho Falls first responders and the staff in the Emergency Room and ICU at EIRMC who cared for Doug, as well as all who have shown an outpouring of love and support in the days surrounding his passing.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 4, 2026, at the Idaho Falls Stake Center, 1155 1st Street.
