Farrell Oswald

November 7th, 1946 - March 31st, 2024

Farrell Jay Oswald, 77, of Idaho Falls, passed away March 31, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Farrell was born November 7, 1946, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Willard James Oswald and Ina Jensen Oswald. He grew up on the family farm in Osgood and graduated from Idaho Falls High School. He also attended Ricks College and Idaho State University.

On June 12, 1970, he married his sweetheart, Linda Swendsen, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Farrell and Linda made their home in Idaho Falls where they raised their five children. Farrell worked a short time at Pinecrest Motor Sports where he satisfied his love of motorcycles and snowmobiles. A short while after, he moved back to his roots in agriculture selling Case IH for Pioneer Equipment. His children and grandchildren were taught young that if it wasn’t a “red tractor,” it was no tractor at all.

Farrell was a true outdoorsman who enjoyed golfing, snowmobiling, hunting, and playing softball, but his true passion was fishing. Any chance available, he would grab one of his kids or grandkids, his fishing gear, and head for the water. In 1984, he caught the Idaho State record Brown Trout that stood for over 30 years. He lived by motto of “Work Hard, Play Hard,” and succeeded at both.

Farrell was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He had a deep and personal relationship with Jesus Christ and lived his life trying to emulate the Savior. He served a two-year mission in 1965 to the Guatemala/El Salvador mission. Farrell’s most cherished moments were always time spent with his family. He and Linda decided early on that making family memories were the best gift they could give their children. Many of these memories were created at their family cabin in Island Park, family trips, or simply sitting around the dinner table playing games or being together.

Farrell is survived by his wife, Linda Oswald of Idaho Falls, ID; children, Jason (Brandie) Oswald of Caldwell, ID, Angie (Ryan) Johnson of South Jordan, UT, Britney (Derek) Howell of Idaho Falls, ID, Kolby (Rachael) Oswald of Hendersonville, TN, and Derek (Cody) Oswald of Rigby, ID; sisters, Joyce Ellis of Idaho Falls, ID, Anette (Larry) Stoddard of Pocatello, ID, Jolene (John) Hollander of Queen Creek, AZ, and, Shawna (Kevin) Campbell of Queen Creek, AZ; sister-in-law, Barbara (Blaine) Oswald; 22 grandchildren and 4 1/2 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Blaine Oswald.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 5, 2024, at the Westhill Ward, 2040 Brentwood Drive, Idaho Falls, Idaho. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue, and Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to services at the church. Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery.
