Flora Grover, 89, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 30, 2024. She was a dedicated and loving mother, grandmother and friend, who lived a long and fulfilling life.

Flora was born in Leland, Utah on March 24, 1934, to Frank Clayson Simmons and Emma Arelda Colson-Simmons. She grew up in rural Idaho Falls with four siblings and her mother’s two youngest sisters. After Flora’s mother passed away, when Flora was three, her father later married Etta Crow, expanding the family to twelve.

She attended school in Lincoln. Times were hard so she and her siblings worked on the farms, thinning beats and picking potatoes. At 16 she met and soon married Stanley Mack Grover. They lived in Idaho Falls until Mack was drafted to serve in the Korean War. Flora followed Mack to Camp Gordon, Georgia where they welcomed their first child Debra.

After Mack was discharged from military service in January 1953, they moved back to Idaho Falls – their lifelong home. They welcomed four more children: Blaine, Bruce, Danna and Blair. Flora was a keen helper in all of Mack’s construction projects. She enthusiastically tackled jobs, including hauling rocks, digging dirt and carrying boards. Together they built two homes and a cabin. Flora and Mack enjoyed travelling, which took them on many adventures across the US, Canada and Mexico.

Flora’s lifelong passion for textiles led to a career as a seamstress. Sewing, knitting, quilting, crocheting – she was a true master in every skill. From Barbie clothes and prom dresses to Christmas pajamas and Halloween costumes, her work touched every aspect of her family’s life. Her seasonal dishtowels and needlework Christmas ornaments were a much-anticipated treat. Her quilts won multiple blue ribbons, the Spectator’s Choice Award and the Best of Show at the state fair.

Flora was an ultimate provider dedicated to taking care of her family. She helped however she could and was ever-present at all family functions and events. She had a great, colorful sense of humor, a memorable ability to tell a story and a distinct laugh that have passed on through the generations.

Flora is preceded in death by her husband Stanley Mack Grover; grandson Kenneth Grover; son-in-law R. Scott Herbst; her siblings Emma Taylor, Lynn Simmons and Arelda Clark; aunts Laura Scott and Mary Sluter as well as her step-siblings. She is survived by her brother Frank Simmons; her five children and their spouses, Debra and Randy Tucker, Blaine and Sandy Grover, Bruce and Leann Grover, Danna Herbst, Blair and Kay Grover; nine grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 3, 2024, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Friday, February 2, 2024, and one hour prior to the services both at the mortuary. The interment will be at the Annis Little Butte Cemetery in Menan.
