Fonya Morris

Fonya Lee Morris, 84, passed away March 7, 2025, at home.

Fonya was born In Twin Falls, Idaho, January 11, 1941, to Sam and Ila Ginnis, and at the age of three was adopted by Ancel and Eliza Haroldsen. They lived on a farm in Idaho Falls, north of town. She joined, her now brothers, DeVar, James, and Melvin. Later a set of twin girls arrived, Janace and Joyce, which made it a family of eight.

She split her time between her Grandma’s home and her family’s home. The big house was where the family lived and the little house is where her Grandma lived. Fonya’s Grandma lived alone most of the time so she spent most of her time there. Fonya kept the reservoir on the cook stove filled with water, cut the wood for the cook stove and pottbellied stove in the living room. She also did a variety of outdoor chores that she did not enjoy as much.

In 1964 she married Henry Winterfeld, to this marriage there were born four sons, David, Jay, Leon, and Dan. They later divorced. She later married Gerald Byerly, he passed away in 1988. She then married Boyd Morris, and was once again widowed in 2012.

Fonya is survived by her children, David (Robin) Winterfeld of Idaho Falls, ID, Jay Winterfeld of Swan Valley, ID, Leon (Rose) Winterfeld of Idaho Falls, ID, Dan Winterfeld of Leander, TX; sisters, Berdene Ingalls of Monroe, WA, Janace Pershing of Idaho Falls, ID, Joyce Novasad of Blackfoot, ID; brothers, DeVar (Sharon) Haroldsen of Idaho Falls, ID, and Melvin Haroldsen of Idaho Falls, ID; 19 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Ancel and Eliza Haroldsen, and Ila Ginnis; spouses, Henry Winterfeld, Gerald Byerly, Boyd Morris; and brother, James Haroldsen.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, March 14, 2025, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Avenue. The family will meet with friends from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to services. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery.
