Obituary
Frank Christopher Tobin
June 26th, 1985 - August 3rd, 2026
Frank Christopher Tobin, 41, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Monday, August 3, 2026.
Frank was born on June 26, 1985, in Stockton, California, to Jennifer (Parton) and Eric Tobin. Two years later, he became a big brother to Alex, a role he had carried throughout his life. Frank lived in many places over the years, including Ione and Lake Tahoe, California; Grants Pass and Coos Bay, Oregon; Minnesota; Darby, Montana; and, most recently, Idaho Falls, Idaho.
Frank was an amazing people person. So many of his jobs throughout his life centered around connecting with and helping others. He worked in a variety of customer service jobs before spending the last 19 months as a driver for Lincare, delivering medical care supplies to patients. Frank had a natural ability to connect with people, and he genuinely cared about the people he met along the way. His patients weren’t simply stops on a route; he enjoyed getting to know them and making those connections.
Frank was a man of many hobbies—none of them particularly cheap—and he loved nothing more than convincing one of his boys or his wife to join him. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, disc golf, rollerblading, reading and listening to books and podcasts, watching baseball, playing chess and cribbage, and spending time in his beloved dad chair watching cartoons.
He also had a deep love for football, especially his San Francisco 49ers. Frank proudly converted both Kevin and Jasper into 49ers fans, leaving Meshelle as the lone Philadelphia Eagles fan in the household. He took great pleasure in reminding her of this fact and teased her about it relentlessly. He was especially excited to embrace his role as a football dad. He had already worked out his schedule so that he could be at every one of Kevin’s football games this fall, and he was incredibly proud of his son and of being there to cheer him on.
Music was another important part of Frank’s life. He loved listening to music, but he also loved making it. Frank played bass guitar, guitar, and drums, and he was always happy to share his love of music with his family. He passed that love on to Jasper, helping spark Jasper’s own interest in music. Frank was incredibly proud that Jasper had begun taking music lessons and loved watching him discover something that meant so much to him.
Frank’s musical taste was as eclectic as his personality. He could go through a heavy-metal phase, with Metallica always holding a special place in his heart, and then suddenly move on to techno or what the family affectionately referred to as “robot music”—music he could happily listen to for hours, even if it occasionally gave Meshelle a headache.
Frank was funny, although it sometimes took a while to realize he was joking. He had a unique sense of humor that often sounded completely serious, even when he was being ridiculous. He very seldom took anything too seriously, and he had a gift for bringing humor into everyday moments. He gave every one of Meshelle’s sister’s a nickname. When discussing what he wanted done with his remains if something were to even happen to him, Frank said he wanted to be put in a German Beer Stein. This would combine his love of beer with his German ancestry and would then be would forever be Meshelle’s Frank-in-stein. But on top of being funny, he was equally kind. He was the kind of person who put his shopping cart back where it belonged—a small detail that Meshelle always loved about him.
Above all else, Frank was an amazing father and a fantastic husband.
He was the proud father of Skyler Dunton, born October 6, 2006. On June 24, 2023, Frank married the love of his life, Meshelle Woods. But his family with Meshelle began long before their wedding day. Frank accepted Meshelle’s sons, Kevin Woods, born April 3, 2010, and Jasper Woods, born April 30, 2012, as his own from the moment he met them in 2019.
Frank and Meshelle met while they were both working at Adam & Eve, a story they both equally loved to share. What began as a friendship quickly became something much deeper. Frank became Meshelle’s best friend and someone she knew she could always count on. He helped guide her through a difficult time in her life and showed her, through his honesty, kindness, humor, and steady presence, what it meant to have someone truly in your corner.
They began dating, and only two weeks later Frank jokingly told her, “Don’t catch feelings, kid.” As it turned out, he had already started falling for her himself.
They dated for six months before Meshelle introduced Frank to her boys and her dog, and he instantly fell in love with all three. Their relationship later became long distance before Frank eventually moved in with Meshelle and the boys, becoming the family they had been building together.
On September 16, 2021, Frank proposed to Meshelle in front of Snow White’s wishing well at Disneyland. True to Frank’s personality, he couldn’t simply propose normally. He proposed in an Elvis accent and told her that if she didn’t say yes, he would throw himself down the well. Frank couldn’t do anything completely seriously, and Meshelle wouldn’t have had it any other way.
Frank loved his family fiercely. He was proud of his children, excited about their interests, and happiest when he could share the things he loved with them. Whether he was teaching Jasper about music, cheering for Kevin on the football field, or trying to convince Meshelle that the 49ers were obviously the superior team, Frank found joy in being involved in the lives of the people he loved.
Frank will be remembered for his enormous heart, his dry and often unexpected sense of humor, his love of music and sports, his many hobbies and interests, and most of all, the love he had for his family. He leaves behind a lifetime of stories, laughter, music, football games, adventures, and memories that will be carried by those who knew and loved him.
Frank will be deeply missed by his wife, Meshelle; his children, Skyler, Kevin, and Jasper; his parents, Jennifer and Eric; his brother, Alex; and the many family members, friends, coworkers, patients, and others whose lives he touched.
He left us far too soon. But anyone who knew Frank knows that he left behind something that cannot be measured in years—the love, laughter, and memories he gave to the people around him. There will never be another Frank.
A celebration of life will be held at 12 noon, Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls. The family will visit with family and friends one hour prior to the service. The cremation is under the direction of Coltrin Mortuary.
