Glen Lyle Peterson

Glen Lyle Peterson, 88, passed away Friday, April 28, 2023 at his home in Blackfoot, Idaho.

Lyle was born October 28, 1934 in Jameston, Idaho, the son of Vernal Howard and Zelpha Aletha Cox Peterson.

Lyle started school at age 6 in Jameston. He also attended schools in Shelley and Ucon, then Roberts where he graduated from Roberts High School in 1953.

In 1954, Lyle was married to his first wife, Lennie Hunt, and was blessed with three children: Wade, Lynn and Laura.


On June 18, 1966, Lyle married the love of his life, Elva Jean Fullmer in Leslie, Idaho. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple in 1970. He was blessed with four more children: LaNita, Vicky, Glen and Brian.

Lyle was a farmer. He was also a mechanic for International Harvester at Blackfoot Equipment Company for 14 years, and then John Deere. He worked with his sons in construction during his retired years.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was Sunday school president and in the presidency. He enjoyed being a temple worker and home teacher.<

He was a member of the Blackfoot River Bowmen and Arco bowling league. He was an avid outdoorsman until the last couple of years. He loved fishing, hunting, archery and camping. He loved being in the outdoors with his horses and dogs. Poetry and woodworking were also hobbies he spent his free time doing.

Lyle is survived by his wife of nearly 57 years, Elva Jean Peterson; his children, Wade (Sheree) Peterson of Menan ID, Lynn (Pam) Peterson of Wisconsin, Laura Peterson of California, LaNita McRae of Blackfoot, Vicky (James Sr.) Despain of North Carolina, Glen (Luella) Peterson of Firth ID and Brian (Amy) Peterson of Shelley ID; 29 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; also expected in 2023 are 5 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

Lyle was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Orland Peterson, Barbara Gneiting and Belva Traughber; and a grandson, Bobby McRae.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 5, 2023 at the Rose 2nd Ward Church. The family will meet with friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Thursday, May 4, 2023 at Hawker Funeral Home, and again prior to the service at the church from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in the Taylor Cemetery.

The family would like to thank Eden Home Health and Hawker Funeral Home for faithfully and lovingly taking care of Lyle.
