Karl William Hayes

March 19th, 1962 - February 21st, 2024









Karl William Hayes, 61 passed away on February 21, 2024, at his home surrounded by his children, Ashlie, Scott, Josey, and Lyndi.

Karl was born on March 19, 1962 in Rigby, Idaho to Reed and Helen Hayes. He grew up outside of Ririe, Idaho and was the youngest of six. Growing up, Karl enjoyed riding bikes, swimming in the canals, hunting, and fishing.

Karl’s first job was with Mitchell-Hart Design Construction as a framer. Karl caught on quickly and found a passion for carpentry. He started his own framing business in 1982 at the age of 20, and built the home he spent his adult life in. He shared his many talents helping friends and family with home repairs and renovations.

In the fall of 1989 Karl attended EITC where he earned his Technical Certificate in Health Physics. He started at the INL in 1990 as a Rad-Con Tech and retired in 2017 as a Rad-Con Trainer. During his time at the INL he was looked up to by many and was regarded as one of the most knowledgeable in his field.

Karl met Mardi Amos in early 1997 and they were later married in June of 1998. Mardi was truly the love of his life, and he enjoyed every moment of their time together. The majority of their time was spent attending the kids’ activities including, baseball, rodeos, track meets, volleyball games, basketball games, wrestling matches, football games, and dance competitions. Sadly, in March of 2009, Mardi passed away after a short courageous battle with cancer.

Throughout his life Karl had numerous hobbies including, carpentry, archery, hunting, stock car racing, playing poker, NASCAR, Jeeping, and collecting bourbon, among many others. He was the most thoughtful person and never missed an opportunity to celebrate the people who mattered to him. He had the best sense of humor, and was infamous in his circle for his “Karlisms”. Karl always said, “I got to pick every person in my life, and I chose well.”

Karl is survived by his loving children, Ashlie (David) Snegosky, Scott (Chay) Crew, Josey (Lexie) Gamett and Lyndi (Seth) Marquez. In addition, Karl is survived by his grandchildren: Parker Mowat, Cooper Crew, Deacon, Camila, and Josslyn Marquez and Damien and Makenna Roberts. He is also survived by a sister MarJean Campbell and brothers JR (Arlene) Hayes and FarDell (Loa) Hayes.

Karl is preceded in death by his wife Mardi Hayes, parents, Reed (Helen) Hayes, daughter, Crystal Crew, Brother, Dee Hayes and sister, Renetia Nielson.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 1, 2024, at the Ririe Stake Center at 11:00 a.m. The family will visit with friends on Thursday evening February 29, 2024 from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. at the Eckersell Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Ririe-Shelton Cemetery under the direction of Eckersell Funeral Home in Rigby. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.eckersellfuneralhome.com.
