Kenneth (Ken) John Tienus Stavast, 78, of Idaho Falls, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at his home with his family by his side.

Ken was born on June 25, 1947, in Nelson, British Columbia, Canada, to Andrew and Doreen Jessie Walkden Stavast. He spent his early childhood growing up in Nelson, British Columbia. When he was eight years old, his family moved to Aberdeen, Idaho. He graduated from Aberdeen High School in 1965. After high school, he attended Idaho State University and earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree.

On July 10, 1970, he joined the Army National Guard, served for 6 years, and was honorably discharged on March 9, 1976. While serving in the National Guard, he was discharged as a Staff Sergeant.

On August 29, 1974, Ken married Shirley Doreen Batterton in the Idaho Falls Temple, and they enjoyed 51 years of working and raising a family together. Ken spent his early career building homes in eastern Idaho, then began a long career developing software and marketing resources for many area businesses.

Ken was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a mission in the California North Mission. He enjoyed serving in various callings in the church, including High Priest Group Leader, Elder’s Quorum President, Sunday School President, Young Men’s President, and Bishopric Counselor. He enjoyed writing and spending time with his family.

He was a kind-hearted soul with a quick wit. He lived a life of service to others, always ready with a helping hand and a classic “dad joke” delivered with his signature charm as a proud left-handed Canadian from Aberdeen. He was a genuine friend to all and valued his friendships.

Ken is survived by his wife, Shirley Stavast of Idaho Falls; his stepson, Chris Howell of Orem, Utah; his daughter, Amy (Blake) Petersen of Idaho Falls; his son, John (Samantha) Stavast of American Fork, Utah; his brothers: Jim (Janet) Stavast of Orem, Utah, and Lyle Stavast of Saratoga Springs, Utah; his sister, Barbara (Dave) Green of Springfield, Idaho; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Doreen Stavast, and his stepdaughter, Susan Kelly Howell.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 14, 2026, at the Pioneer Ward, Eagle Rock Stake Center, 2020 S. Charlotte Dr. A visitation will be held from 9:30-10:30 a.m., Saturday, prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery.
