Kristy Jean King

Kristy Jean King, nee Sims, was born November 8, 1958, right smack in the middle of hunting season, a fact of which, if you knew her, you already knew. She was the middle child of Weston K. and Clarice Renae Sims (nee Blattner), sandwiched between her sisters, Tammy and Cindy. Kristy was the shyest and quietest of the sisters, though you’d probably never realize that if you met her later in life, or really got to know her.
She attended school in Butte County, and later at Hard Knocks. She learned to whistle at 4-H camp—a skill that came in handy for rounding up her daughter and the rest of the brood she helped raise by kicking them out of the house and instilling in them a great fear of not running home fast enough when they heard the whistle. She honed her voice as a cheerleader. She had an infectious laugh.
Her pride and joy, Shuree Renae, was born on November 15, 1976. She eloped with the love of her life, Michael Alan King (Mickey), and they were married in the basement of the courthouse in Elko, Nevada on August 2, 1981. Their love was one for storybooks. She followed Mickey on his hang-gliding adventures and was a stellar driver and spotter in the days before cell phones and GPS.
She fed and hosted many people at the first and numerous other King Mountain fly-ins in their yard in Moore, Idaho. Kristy and Mickey later bought his family Ranch in the Antelope Valley. Kristy ran the ranch while Mickey worked at the National Lab. She worked hard to learn the skills required. Kristy had a quick wit, and an ability to learn on the fly.
Among her many careers, she could count CNA (where she helped many people at the Lost River Hospital), EMT, CDL driver (where she worked on a road crew paving roads), and as a wastewater treatment technician for the City of Arco, whereupon screening sewage lagoons, she developed a sincere fondness (read “hatred”) for ducks and geese.
Kristy was also a great cook, cooking many meals for branding crews; a gifted seamstress; and had an awe-inspiring gift for beading. She beaded many purses, beautiful moccasins, and cradle boards reminiscent of the indigenous arts. Those close to her were lucky to be gifted beaded medicine bags. She loved to travel, Jamaica being a highlight, and was a regular at music festivals across the country, Bonnaroo being among the most eye-opening. Kristy loved beautiful, but not material, things…the mountains, family, and a good time.
She said her final farewell, surrounded by family and friends, on February 9, 2025.
Kristy was preceded in death by her grandparents, Stanley and Vivian (nee Combe) Blattner and Kenneth and Bernice (nee Weston) Sims; her mother; and her husband.
She is survived by her father, daughter Shuree Burgoyne (Brent), 8 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and too many friends to count—all who will miss her laugh, humor, and unconditional love.
Memorial Services will be held on Friday, February 21, 2025, at 12 Noon at the Moore Community Center, 3353 W. 3155 N. Moore, ID. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are under the care of the Anderson Family Funeral Home
