Obituary
Larry Jay Fackrell
December 6th, 1949 - May 30th, 2026
Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Larry Jay Fackrell, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. After a courageous six-week battle with cancer, he departed this life in a manner that reflected how he lived: with faith, dignity, peace, and unwavering strength.
Larry was born on December 6, 1949, to Ivan and Norma Fackrell. He spent his youth in Concord, California, where he developed a love for camping, road trips, family adventures, and visits to his grandfather’s dairy farm in Pingree, Idaho. The lessons and experiences of his childhood helped shape the man he would become and instilled the values of hard work, humility, faith, and devotion that guided him throughout his life.
As a young man, Larry faithfully served a two-year mission in Denmark for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Following his mission, he attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, where he earned a degree in Mathematics. While attending BYU, he met Mary Ann Harris of Ririe, Idaho, who would become the love of his life and his eternal companion.
Larry and Mary Ann were married and shared 52 years together, building a home centered on faith in Jesus Christ, love, service, and family. Their marriage stands as a lasting example of devotion and commitment. Through every season of life, Mary Ann remained the center of Larry’s heart and always his highest priority. Those who knew them knew that you never saw one without the other. Together they faced life’s joys and challenges literally hand in hand, creating a legacy of service and faith in Jesus Christ that continues to bless their family. Their faith in the Savior and in the healing power of His Atonement provided strength, comfort, and hope throughout their lives.
After completing his education, Larry began a successful career in computer programming. Early in their married life, Larry and Mary Ann lived in Fort Worth, Texas, where Larry worked on the F-16 fighter aircraft program, a role he greatly enjoyed. In 1976, they moved to Idaho and settled in the Milo area in 1977. They made their home there and remained in the same house for nearly five decades, raising their family and building a life centered on faith, hard work, and service. Much of the home was built by Larry and Mary Ann with the help of their children. Working side by side, the children learned the value of hard work and gained the confidence that they, too, could build, create, and accomplish things they might once have thought impossible.
Larry worked at the Idaho National Laboratory for nearly 25 years, where he was respected for his dedication, intelligence, and strong work ethic. After concluding his career at the laboratory, he devoted himself to the family lawn care business. What began as work became another opportunity to serve others and spend time with those he loved most. For approximately 25 years, he faithfully maintained lawns throughout the community and continued mowing until the fall of 2025.
Some of Larry’s most treasured memories came during the last 10 to 15 years as he worked side-by-side with his grandchildren. The lawn care business became more than a livelihood; it became a place where stories were shared, lessons were taught, relationships were strengthened, and lasting memories were created. Those hours spent together reflected what mattered most to Larry: faith, family, hard work, and time with the people he loved.
Over the years, Larry became a familiar and trusted presence throughout the community. Many knew him through his years of service, while others knew him as the dependable man who cared for others in ways words cannot convey. Through both, he quietly built friendships and strengthened the lives of those around him.
Larry was the proud father of nine children: Matthew (Amy) Fackrell; Heidi (Joe) Starr; Melissa (Eric) Crapo; Wendell (Mallory) Fackrell; Tyler (Jenny) Fackrell; Melanie Bezold; Sara (Josh) Bohon; Ashley (Chris) Mittendorf; and Chelsey (Morgan) Manship.
His posterity was one of his greatest joys. He leaves behind 40 grandchildren and eagerly anticipated the arrival of two great-grandchildren.
A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout his life, Larry served in numerous callings, including teacher, ward clerk, and as part of the team that assisted with scripture study helps for the edition of the Bible published by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In that calling, he worked on footnotes in 2 Corinthians and contributed to portions of the Topical Guide relating to the name Jehovah. He had a deep love for genealogy and temple work and found great joy in serving the Lord and helping connect generations of families.
Those who knew Larry will remember his quiet strength, gentle humor, unwavering faith, and steadfast example. He was a trusted counselor, a devoted husband, a loving father, and a faithful disciple of Jesus Christ. His influence will continue to be felt in the lives of his family and all who were blessed to know him.
While his family mourns his passing, they find comfort in the knowledge that families are eternal and rejoice in the promise of the Resurrection. Because of the Atonement of Jesus Christ, they know that death is not the end and look forward with hope to a joyful reunion in the life to come. His legacy of faith, service, kindness, and devotion will continue through the generations that follow him.
Many accomplishments could be listed from Larry’s life, but those who knew him best understand that his greatest achievement was the family he loved, led, and nurtured. Whether serving in the Church, working at the Idaho National Laboratory, maintaining lawns throughout the community, or spending long summer days teaching grandchildren the value of hard work, Larry quietly built a legacy of faith, service, and love. He was the rock of his family. His steady faith, quiet strength, dependable example, and unwavering devotion created a foundation that will bless generations to come.
Larry is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Ann Fackrell; his nine children and their spouses; 40 grandchildren; his brother, Keith (Jill) Fackrell; and his sisters, Karenlee (Omid) and Kristine (Rod).
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ivan and Norma Fackrell.
