Leo David Amy was born March 31, 1926, in Howe, Idaho. He was the oldest of four children born to Jess Lloyd and Hazel O’Maley Amy. He attended his first three years of school at Howe before the family moved to Clyde, Idaho where he attended school until the eighth grade. Leo moved to Boise and lived with his Uncle Dewey Doors for the first half of his freshman year. He moved back home and finished his freshman year in Blackfoot living with the Parley Arave family. He stayed with the Arave family for his sophomore, junior, and part of his senior year. He was involved in football, track, and boxing, but mostly enjoyed life on the Arave’s ranch. They were sad when he left, but World War II years were a hard time to find farm and ranch workers, so he opted to quit school and help his dad on the farm.

In 1953 he met and married a 24-year-old widower with 3 small children, Cleo Johnson Summers. They lived in a small Quonset building divided into three small rooms with no indoor bathroom and running water. In 1958 they built a new house. They lived in that house the rest of their lives except for the last three and a half years that were spent in the assisted living center, The Willows, in Blackfoot, Idaho.

Leo was a long-time member of the National Cattleman’s Association, the Idaho Cattleman’s Association, and the Idaho Woolgrower’s Association. Leo was awarded a lifetime membership of the Butte County Soil and Water Conservation District after serving for many years on the Board of Directors. He served for 8 years on the County RC&D Council, BLM Advisory Board, 6 years on the Forest Service Board, and Secretary of the Water District for 33 of his 36 years.

Leo is preceded in death by his wife, Cleo, parents, Jess and Hazel Amy, two sisters, Beth Ann Tate and Lois Monson, one brother, Jake Amy, and two sons, Clifford Summers and Allan Summers. He is survived by his daughter, Sherry Lynn (Dean) Smith, Bancroft, ID; two sons, Dee Leo (Juliet) Amy, Howe, ID and Kelly J. (Cheryl) Amy, Howe, ID; two daughters-in-law, Janell Summers, Great Bend, KS and Debbie Summers, Blackfoot, ID.
