Obituary
Marie Sommer
May 10th, 1935 - February 10th, 2026
Marie Pearl Sommer passed away peacefully, Tuesday, February 10, 2026, in Rexburg, Idaho. Marie was born on May 10, 1935, the first of two children, to Lloyd and Pearl Brower, at their family home in Hibbard, Idaho. Marie spent the winters of her early childhood in Hibbard, with her parents and brother Gene. Her family would return to her grandparents’ ranch at Sandcreek in the spring for her dad to farm. Many hours were spent playing with all her cousins at the lakes, hunting, fishing and huckleberrying. She gained a vast knowledge of flowers and wildlife from tagging along with her grandparents through the fields and around the ranch.
She attended grade school in Hibbard, where she met great friends, who remained close to her throughout her lifetime. While attending Madison High School in Rexburg she enjoyed going to dances and movies, participated in the school play, church activities, and attending basketball and football games with her friends. She married her high school sweetheart and eternal companion, Reed Sommer, on June 17, 1953, in the Idaho Falls Temple. They spent time in Fort Ord, California, and Fort Lewis, Washington, while Reed served in the Army.
Returning to Hibbard in 1955 Marie supported Reed in their Masonry business. Between 1984-1994 Marie worked alongside Reed for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints overseeing the church buildings. She enjoyed using her knowledge of flowers to take care of the beautiful flower gardens around the church grounds. Four children joined this union, Steven in 1955, Laurel in 1957, Marcene in 1960 and Lane in 1965. Marie was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in numerous callings within the Primary, Young women, and Relief Society organizations. Marie’s great joys in life were when she was spending time at the Sandcreek ranch and watching her grandchildren.
Survivors include her son Steven Reed Sommer (Deborah), daughter Laurel Marie Robinson (Jay), daughter Marcene Pearl Blunck (L. Don), 16 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, coming this summer a great-great grandchild, and her dear brother, Gene Brower. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Reed Sommer (2023), and her youngest son Lane Sommer (2025).
